1000 Facebook Friend Frenzy!

Why should I have a Facebook account?  Well, Facebook is a one-stop destination for keeping in touch with anyone and everyone from former high school classmates, out-of-town family members or just friends and family in your neigherhood.  We are all so busy that if is difficult to connect to people socially outside of our work environment.  Facebook provides away to communicate with friends and family that you would otherwise go without a connection for months even years.  I personally enjoy the photos that my friends share on their accounts like a special birthday celebration or family vacation.

Ok, now- my true motives and the best reason to have a Facebook account- to follow our Ivy Ridge Facebook page for the daily quick, short shop updates that you can easily view without ever opening your email.  You can read status posts about new arrivals, notes about our blog updates, special coupons just for Facebook friends, as well as Facebook contests giving away shop merchandise and gift certificates! I would like invite you to join us now while we have a FACEBOOK FRIEND FRENZY contest in which you could win a $25 gift certificate as well as one for another friends.

Here is how it works:
We are so close to 1000 FB Friends.  Let's play FACEBOOK FRIEND FRENZY! Please refer a friend to "like" us.  To qualify, they just join our friends list and post your name on our wall as the referring friend!  We will draw a friendship pair and EACH one of you could win a $25.00 gift certificate!  Share this ALL your FB friends to enter multiple times!

Watch for Us in Yadkin Valley Living Magazine!

We are super excited to be featured in Yadkin Valley Living Magazine in the November/December issue highlighting our Old World Christmas ornaments.  We would like to thank John Norman from Yadkin Valley Living writing our piece and driving all the way to North Wilkesboro to visit our shop! Oh, I just threw in a photo was one of the cutest new ornaments for us this year-French Fries!

A little information about Old World Christmas:
Each glass ornament produced World Christmas is hand crafted in age-old tradition using the same techniques that originated in the 1800's.  New designs are released yearly.  Many families collect Old World Christmas ornaments.  Each ornament comes with a special tag illustrating the inspiration behind the design, which allows you to pick a special ornament with personal meaning for each person in your life.

Halloween + Paula Deen = Witchy Treat

Picture of Bewitched Cake Recipe
No one does food with flare like Paula Deen.  Is she our Southern Queen?  Britain has Queen Elizabeth, we have Queen Deen.  With Halloween coming up I wanted to share a Paula Deen food find I enjoyed from foodnetwork.com.  Just follow the link to the recipe for a cool witchy hat cake.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/bewitched-cake-recipe/index.html

A quick cake hint I read on the reviews for the Bewitched Cake:  For those who may have difficulty with the frosting of this hat, may it was suggested from one of the recipe rules to freeze your cake layers so that it crumbs less and you can frost it easier. Also use a bigger dowel to put down the center so there won't be any slipping at all. After decorating you can let it come to room temp.

Who Doesn't Love to Find a Fashion Favorite?

We will be receiving some great outerware. My favorite is a cute vest like the one pictured below. Our vest with a fur trim that can be removed (no hood) will curve (as shown above) in at your waist to give you a more slimming look . If you are like me a large puffy vest makes me look much bigger than I actually am, now we can have a trendy vest and the look of a smaller waist! I will post a status as soon as they arrive!  We will have three colors in stock-cream, green and bronze in small, medium, large and exlarge.  Give us a call at either shop and ask for a notification when they arrive and we will give you a call on the day they go out of the floor.  Elkin 526-4438 or North Wilkesboro 667-4556

Joan Rivers ~ Funny? Love Her or Hate Her? She is One of a Kind!

Ok, this is blog post simply just out of my brain onto the page and I have no idea why other than the Apprentice as returned to prime television which does make me think of Joan Rivers.

Just a couple of quotes from Joan Rivers:

I have no sex appeal. If my husband didn’t toss and turn, we’d never have had the kid.

I blame my mother for my poor sex life. All she told me was, "the man goes on top and the woman underneath." For three years my husband and I slept in bunk beds.

A child can be taught not to do certain things, such as touch a hot stove, pull lamps off of tables, and wake Mommy before noon.

Either you love her or hate and I love her.  I only hope I have her spunk when I am her age (39 again right, Joan?)  I was actually going to include a before and after plastic surgery photo of Joan, however I could not bring myself to show her in a negative light.  There were definitely should rough photographs of her on the internet, but who doesn't have bad photos!  Therefore, I have picked a photo that brings out her in present time with all her sassy attitude we have grown to love (or hate). However, I raise my hand as one who enjoys a strong woman with a outgoing personality!  Go Joan!

Can You Believe I Am Thinking Spring?!?

petals.jpgcelestial.jpgSquare table, Poppy ParadiseGlass Bird Bath, SunflowerBirdhouse, purple dressy hat

I know we are thinking trick-or-treating, snow and the Christmas holiday ahead, but not I said the gift shop owner!  I am thinking SPRING!  This past spring of 2010, we needed more garden stuff in the shops than we actually had for the season, so boy have I bought garden decor and things that remind us of warm days sitting under a shady tree watching the flowers grow!  After Christmas, when there is still a threat of snowy weather, stop by and see us for a breathe of spring.  The items pictured above will all be available at each shop to the feel of a relaxing garden both inside and out.

Flags, MatMates and Mailwrap Galore!

Now is the time!!!  We have just gotten in our biggest shipment of Christmas flags, mates and mailbox covers for the upcoming Christmas season!

I know we have carried Breeze Art flags and Mailwraps for years, however we begin stocking their Matmates in the fall of 2009 and the response as been amazing!  If you like a decorative doormat that has beautiful colors with a long life, then you need a Matemate.  I have had one for fall, spring, summer and now my fall one is out again.  Well, you cannot even tell I have used them.  You can purchase the mat alone or you may also purchase a rubber mat shell (as you can see is around the snowman Matmate above).  Customers have also had great success giving them as gifts.  The Matmates are $21.99 each.  Note:  We still have some beautiful mates in autumn floral items and a few Halloween in stock also. Below is the Matmate I am using at my door.

Fast & Health-Friendly Baked Coconut Shrimp!

After you fix this recipe, you will wonder why anyone would ever fry them again!  Baking is definiately our friend and the result is a healthier and still tasteful version.

Baked Coconut Shrimp
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/3 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups flaked sweetened coconut
3 egg whites, beaten until foamy

Preheat an oven to 400 degrees. Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.  Rinse and dry shrimp with paper towels. Mix cornstarch, salt, and cayenne pepper in a shallow bow; pour coconut flakes in a separate shallow bowl. Working with one shrimp at a time, dredge it in the cornstarch mixture, then dip it in the egg white, and roll it in the coconut, making sure to coat the shrimp well. Place on them the prepared baking sheet. .Bake the shrimp until they are bright pink on the outside and the meat is no longer transparent in the center and the coconut is browned, 15 to 20 minutes, flipping the shrimp halfway through.  Prepare dip below for dipping.

Marmalade Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup orange marmalade
2 teaspoons ground mustard (with whole grain mustard seed)
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 dash salt
Prepare the marmalade sauce by combining all ingredients in a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving

Brighton Jewerly ~ A Work of Love!

The making of Brighton jewelry is a work of love.  Each piece is cast in solid brass or zinc alloyand then dipped in pure silver.  Since silver has a natural tendencyt to tarnish and scratch, a protect layer of lacquer is added to aid in keeping each piece at its shiny best. Brighton earring posts, French wires and lever backs are composed of sterling silver (975).  Clip on earrings are not sterling silver rather they are stamped brass with a plating finish.  Brighton does manufacture certain ring styles with sterling silver. These rings will have the stamp of 925 on the inside.

An easy tip on how to keep your Brighton jewelry clean:  All you need is a dry, 100% cotton cloth and a little elbow grease. Wiping your item down with the cloth should remove any impurities or darkening that can occur from wearing the item. Also treating your jewelry with silver cleaners, water, or polishing cloths can remove the protective lacquer and cause the item to tarnish.
